For a long time, I measured my blessings only by what was in my account. If the number went up, I felt lucky. If it went down, I felt like nothing was going my way. I thought that was how you keep score in life. It took me a while to learn that money is only one small part of everything I have actually been given.
The first thing I often forget is my health. I only remember it when I get sick. When my body is fine, I take it for granted, like it is supposed to be that way. But being able to wake up without pain, to walk, to eat what I want, to work without my body giving up on me, that is a blessing I rarely thank anyone for. And it is one of the few things money cannot fully buy back once it is gone.
There is also the chance to keep learning. Every time I understand something new, every time I get to grow a little, that is a blessing too. Not everyone gets the room or the time to learn. So even the ability to sit down, read, and become a slightly better version of myself is something I try not to take lightly anymore.
My work is part of it as well. It is not always easy, and there are days I complain about it. But having something to do, a way to earn, a place where I am needed, that is more than a lot of people have. The same job I sometimes grumble about is the thing someone else is praying for.
And maybe the one I appreciate most now is peace of mind. A calm heart. There were times I had money but could not sleep, and times I had very little but felt strangely at peace. That taught me something. Being calm, being able to breathe easy, not carrying a storm inside my chest, that is a blessing money often cannot reach.
I am not saying money does not matter. It does. I still work for it, still plan for it, still need it like everyone else. But I no longer let it be the only thing that decides whether my day was good or bad.
Because when I stop and really look, I realize I have been given so much that never showed up as a number anywhere. Health, the chance to learn, work to do, and a quiet heart. Those are blessings too. Maybe the ones that matter most. And once I started seeing them, it became a lot harder to feel like I have nothing.
