I Want a Simple Future, But It Is Not Easy to Get There

People always talk about big dreams. Being rich, being famous, traveling the world, owning things most people can only look at. And there is nothing wrong with that. But when I sit down and think about what I actually want, my dream turns out to be pretty small. I just want a simple life. The problem is, even a simple life is not easy to reach.

One thing I am grateful for is that I already have a stable job. Not something that makes me insanely rich, just something steady, a job that lets me sleep at night without worrying too much about next month. It took time to get here, and I do not take it for granted, because I know stability is not something you are handed. You have to build it slowly, and I still remember how uncertain the road felt before I got to this point. So that part of my dream, at least, has come true. But the rest of it is still ahead of me.

I want a happy family someday. A home that feels warm, a place where people are glad to come back to at the end of the day. Not a perfect family, I know that does not exist. Just one that is honest and kind to each other. But to get there, I know I have to become someone worth building that with first, and that takes work I am still doing.

I want to worship in peace. To have a calm heart, a quiet moment with God that is not rushed or distracted by a hundred worries. It sounds simple, but a peaceful heart is hard to keep when your mind is full of bills, deadlines, and things you have not figured out yet. Peace, I am learning, also has to be fought for.

I want to have my own home one day. Nothing fancy. Just a place that is truly mine, where I do not have to move again, where I can plant something and watch it grow. But anyone my age knows how far that feels right now. Prices climb faster than savings, and sometimes the dream of a small house feels bigger than the dream of being rich.

And more than anything, I want to help my parents. To give back even a little of what they gave me, to see them rest, to make their lives easier before it is too late. That is maybe the simplest wish of all, and also the one that makes me most afraid of running out of time.

None of these are big by the world’s standard. A warm family, a calm heart, a small home, and parents I can take care of. But laid out together, I realize even these simple things ask a lot from me. They ask for patience, for effort, for years of showing up even when I am tired.

Some days that truth makes me tired before I even start. But most days, it just makes me want to keep going. Having a steady job already showed me that these things are possible if I keep at it long enough. And if this simple future is worth wanting, then it is worth the long, unglamorous road to get there. I may not reach all of it soon. But I would rather walk slowly toward a life that feels like mine than run fast toward one that does not.
